Based in Saline, Michigan, musician Jeremy Frey grew up in northwest Ohio and latched on to music at an early age. After attending Bowling Green State University, he moved to Michigan, joined the All Music Guide in Ann Arbor, and made the rounds playing with the White Ravens, Alejandra O’Leary, the Bad Mics, and No Excuses. More a musical scrapbook than a “solo album,” The Future in Reverse is a collection of songs that spans many times, places, and styles. Written primarily by Frey, its foundation is melodic pop-rock, with a few unexpected side streets. A “rough draft” of the album was completed in 2013 with Detroit producer/musician Jamie Ascenzo, owner and operator of Reelsound Audio in Novi. In late 2022, Frey decided to revisit the project with Ascenzo, adding new material and creating the version of the album that always should have been.

Frey sings and plays the parts on The Future in Reverse with a little help from his friends, including Detroit guitarist Dan Clark (ATMIG/Witchpucker), Ypsilanti keyboardist Will Bennett (The White Ravens), and Florida-based drummer Tony Gorrell (currently performing with Duchess). A collaboration between Frey and Ohio musician Jon Michalek, “Turtle” takes a well-known fable and makes it danceable. New track and lead single “The
Thoughts” is a family affair: Frey is joined by his uncles Denny on bass, Randy on drums, and Steve on lead guitar. Their work in the studio is documented in a music video for the song, available on YouTube.
